Care UK is reducing the number of bed rails in its homes

Care UK has recently announced an ‘ambitious move’ to reduce the number of bed rails in its homes to reduce injuries.

Care UK said that just 11% (350) of its 3308 beds now have bed rails in a bid to cut down the risk of harm to residents.

If that is an indication of the height of Care UK’s ambition, I’ll go feed the donkey a doughnut!

And then, I’ll propose another ambition for Care UK, and one that would be of far greater value long-term: to guarantee and ensure that each and every home it ever opens – ostensibly to provide care for vulnerable elderly residents – will be fit for purpose from day one onwards.

That really would cut down the risk of harm to residents.
